Enduro Mediterraneo is here to stay as everything shows. This Greek Enduro race series has gained steady followers from all over Greece and abroad. The teams from Bulgaria didn’t make it to this race but we hope we see them in RND#3 in Volos, for the final battle of the brave. General impressions about the race were good, and riders expressed good comments about how clear the trails were as well as the level of organizing, although we had suggestions about eliminating the uplift service, something we are thinking of for 2015. We would like to thank all the athletes that participated in our race at RND#2 of Enduro Mediterraneo, as well as Gary Forrest William of WTB UK Enduro Team. As Gary said “the trails in Evia are a just a flowy version of Finale”, which is really rewarding for us.
The only foreigner that participated in the Steni race came from Scotland, and managed to get over the 20 degrees temperature difference, and finish 1 minute 13 seconds faster in his total participating time. Gary Forrest William showed us what PRO athletes are made of, not only do they race hard, but also have fun. In fact they first have fun riding, and racing always come second. With 30 seconds ahead just in stage 1, Gary just relaxed, kept consistent and enjoyed the rest of the Stages in order to easily win the podium. Nontas Lamprakopoulos, the winner of Xanthi race came second, and proved once again that he is a top level Greek rider who is very consistent. Downhill rider Christos Dervenis took 3rd place, getting 1st fastest time on stage 4 seconds ahead Gary. Velokas Apostolis came in 4th place showing us good sings of improvement, and Vagelis Kavvadas from Corfu in 5th place. Last years champion Gregory Kalogeropoulos stayed at 7th place with Junior rider Tsarouhis Nikos in 6th place.
In women’s category, we only had 2 participant, but only Erini Mavraki managed to finish the race as she is really accustomed to podiums. This years’ Junior riders have started threatening even top spots on the line with Tsarouhis Nikos of Velocity Bikes in 1st place. Bouloubasis Fedon also from Velocity Bikes came second & the crazy blubber whip guy Zabelis Marios in 3rd place. Hardtail category seems to be pretty interesting with Christos Argyrisclaiming 1st place. Kyriakos Mavropoulosfrom Salonika finished just 30 seconds away from Argyris in 2nd place just ahead from John Korfiatis.
We would like to thank the Forestry Commision of Chalkida, the Dirfis Municipality, the Volunteer Samaritans of Chalkida, and the Chalkida Ambulance force for providing us with an ambulance, and also our supporters Nightfox, Tzotzopoulos, Kassimatis Cycling, Zipvit, Masterbike, Dirfis water, Steni Bakery, Taverna Kantouros, Taverna Kissos, Taverna Mouria, 1743 Coffeshop, Dirfion Thimises souvenirs, Cafe Elati & Touloumis steel frame buildings.
